In the request it is mentioned:

In the Rehabilitation investigation of Febr. 14, 2003, it is stated that the employer has exhausted its possibilities both to rehabilitate and to re-assign the assistant pastor Dag Sandahl. (See Attachment 1).

Doctor's Certificates during the sick leave have unanimously indicated that it is not adviseable for Dag Sandahl to return to his position as a priest in Kalmar. Thus Kalmar Church Community Council will decide to dismiss Dag Sandahl owing to personal reasons.

Kalmar, December 18, 2003.

Rune Karlsson, Chairman of the Council.
Peter Lundborg, Rector

....

According to Attachment 1, the employment oriented rehabilitation offered by the council has been evaluated by the staff medical officer and found medically unsuitable.

"Thus Kalmar Church Community Council assess its possibilities as exhausted for any further rehabilitation on the part of the employer. A relevant re-assignment to another position is not possible."

Appeal

To:

Kalmar Church Community Council
The Chapter and Diocesan Board of Växjö Diocese
The Board of the Swedish Church

  • We express our alarm at the decision by Kalmar Church Community Council to dismiss the dean Dag Sandahl during his present sick leave.
  • We are worried about a church that does not make use of the gifts and the great competence he has, well known and documented, on the parish, the district, the diocesan, the national level.
  • We are afraid that this action signals an even harsher climate towards other priests as well, priests who may be perceived as an embarrassment.
